Razor Clam Society Launches New Map

In an effort to be of greater service to the razor clamming community in Washington State and beyond, the Razor Clam Society has created and published a comprehensive new razor clam beach map. The Map can be found here.

The Razor Clam Society thanks you for your support.  We encourage you to continue to support us in several ways, namely sharing your stories with us and following us on social media. You can also show support by purchasing a Razor Clam Society T-shirt, available in S, M, L, XL, XXL sizes.

5 Days of Digs Approved

According to a press release from the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW), 5 days of razor clam digs have been approved for the following dates.

Jan. 27, Friday, 6:26 p.m.; -0.5 feet; Copalis

Jan. 28, Saturday, 7:01 p.m.; -0.6 feet; Copalis

Jan. 29, Sunday, 7:37 p.m.; -0.5 feet; Copalis, Mocrocks

Jan. 30, Monday, 8:13 p.m.; -0.3 feet; Copalis, Mocrocks

Jan. 31, Tuesday, 8:50 p.m.; 0.2 feet; Copalis, Mocrocks

And remember:

Under state law, diggers at open beaches can take 15 razor clams per day and are required to keep the first 15 they dig. Each digger’s clams must be kept in a separate container.

All diggers age 15 or older must have an applicable 2016-17 fishing license to harvest razor clams on any beach. Licenses, ranging from a three-day razor clam license to an annual combination fishing license, are available on WDFW’s website at https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov and from license vendors around the state.

3 Days of Digs on 2 Beaches

According to a press release from Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW), three days of razor clam digs will begin on Jan. 13 at two ocean beaches.

Copalis and Mocrocks were cleared for their first digs of 2017 after marine toxin tests confirmed the clams on those beaches are safe to eat.

According to Dan Ayres, WDFW coastal shellfish manager, “The best digging typically occurs one to two hours before low tide.”

Please note: Digging is not allowed on any beach before noon.

The upcoming dig is approved on the following beaches, dates and evening low tides:

  • Jan. 13, Friday, 7:17 p.m.; -1.4 feet; Copalis, Mocrocks
  • Jan. 14, Saturday, 7:59 p.m.; -1.0 feet; Copalis, Mocrocks
  • Jan. 15, Sunday, 8:40 p.m.; -0.4 feet; Copalis, Mocrocks

Kalaloch IS BACK!

According to information released by the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW), the tentatively planned January razor clam opening at Kalaloch will proceed. The most recent round of marine toxin testing for this beach is now complete and the result on this beach is below the action level.
That means it’s time to return to the only WA State razor clam beach that is located within the Olympic National Forest. The beach has been closed for digging since 2012 due to low numbers of razor clams. This is an exciting and unique opportunity for true razor clam enthusiasts. WDFW has also suggested that more open digs at Kalaloch will follow through the rest of the season.

Dig dates and low tide times appear below.

· Jan. 8, 2017, Sunday, 3:11 p.m.; 0.4 feet; Kalaloch

· Jan. 9, 2017, Monday, 4:08 p.m.; -0.4 feet; Kalaloch
